👋 Hi! I’m Alexis Booth.
Welcome to the Breakout Booth.
I spent 25 years climbing the corporate ladder in big tech (mostly at Google), navigating the highs of big promotions and the lows of burnout. At the same time, I was figuring out where I belonged in life - looking for love, getting married, building my "chosen" family, and now raising two young kids. Through all of it I've struggled to find my "sweet spot" of balance.
I created my podcast and newsletter to share the lessons I've learned the hard way, with you. My goal is to help you find your own path to success and personal satisfaction - without losing yourself in the process.

🙋 What do I mean - “the hard way?”
When you learn something “the hard way,” you're doing it all by yourself - without much guidance or encouragement. The process itself feels difficult, if not downright painful.
Why? Growth is inherently hard and uncomfortable. It's un-fun to realize you're not good at something. And it's awkward and scary to make your first attempts at whatever you're learning. It's inevitable you'll fail along the way, and you'll probably look bad to anyone who's watching.
But the hardest part about doing things "the hard way?" You feel so incredibly alone on the journey. Humans are hard-wired for connection, and when we isolate or distance ourselves from others to avoid them finding our flaws, we make the learning process even more difficult. This kind of social avoidance to save face is the very root of "imposter syndrome" - and the only way through it is to claim ownership of the things we're focused on growing and improving.

💡 I shine a light on unschooled skills
The topics we explore in my podcast and newsletters are things most of us never learned in a formal setting. They weren't subjects in school; we only started reflecting on them because they're holding us back from promotions, raises, new jobs and entrepreneurial pursuits. For many of us, they also create a sense of uncertainty and fear in our lives, because we think we're inefficient or even incompetent at them. Unchecked, this negative thought spiral can lead to a general sense of dissatisfaction, exhaustion, and eventually - burnout.
They're soft skills, which are often misunderstood as personality traits you either have, or you don’t. And that sneaky internal belief - that you don't possess a particular skill - is one that can bury your greatest aspirations. You just haven't acquired it yet.
💬 What do you want to unlock?
You have so much potential inside you. What do you want? What are your wildest dreams?
Getting there will involve hard work - but if you can imagine it, it's possible. And you don't have to do it "the hard way." You are not alone on your journey.
All it takes to start is curiosity, accepting you'll experience discomfort along the way, and a commitment to try.
And I'm here to support and guide you along the way.
Because I believe success is closer than you think.
